Itinerary

Departure: 1:00 pm · Total duration: about 5 hours · Starting point: pick-up at your hotel in the historic centre.

  1. Day 1 Half a day, a thousand years of history

Hotel pick-up (12:00 - 12:45 pm): we collect you directly from your hotel if it is in the historic centre. Otherwise a nearby meeting point is agreed.

Cusco Cathedral: a majestic colonial monument built on the former Inca palace of Viracocha. Baroque altars, finely carved woodwork, Cusco school paintings and Andean symbols subtly woven into Catholic iconography.

Qorikancha, the Temple of the Sun: once covered in pure gold, it was the most sacred temple in the Andes. Today its perfectly fitted Inca walls survive beneath the Santo Domingo convent.

Sacsayhuamán: this colossal fortress features perfectly interlocking stonework and offers one of the finest panoramic views of Cusco.

Q'enqo: a ceremonial site carved into the rock, used for rituals and perhaps mummification.

Puka Pukara: this "red fortress" served as a military checkpoint for those entering Cusco. Its name comes from the reddish tone the stones take on at sunset.

Tambomachay: known as the "Inca Baths", this ceremonial site includes working water channels that testify to advanced Inca hydraulic engineering.

Return to your hotel or the historic centre, just in time to watch the sunset over the imperial city.
